The Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts was established in 1991 as the city’s second Paideia magnet school.  A dedicated magnet, serving grades K-8, its population of learners is diverse intellectually, socially, racially, economically, and geographically. The one-track curriculum succeeds because teachers hold high expectations for all students.  Programs in place at CSLA, such as self-discipline, character education, and academic coaching, foster respect and responsibility.  Student achievement is evident through consistently high test scores.  CSLA has been recognized by the National PTA as a National Parent Involvement School of Excellence, and in 2005 was named a No-Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School.

Curriculum Offerings
Consistent with the Paideia philosophy, our rigorous one-track curriculum provides all CSLA students the opportunity to achieve at high levels.

Paideia Philosophy
As a Paideia Magnet school, the Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts uses the 14 Essential Elements of a Paideia School as its philosophy and guidelines for instruction.  These guidelines were developed Mortimer Adler in his book The Paideia Proposal.
